How it works
This is the filter the rest of the Alka-Pi line is built around. Reverse osmosis strips water down to near-nothing, which leaves it clean but slightly acidic and flat-tasting. The Alka-Pi filter is the stage that puts minerals back.
Water passes through Bio-Cal ceramic — a material made from pulverized seashell, pearl, and coral — and picks up ionic calcium, magnesium, and potassium on the way through. That mineral content is what holds the pH at 9–10 rather than letting it drift back down as the water sits.
The whole process is passive. There's no electricity, no ionizing plate, and nothing to power — the water simply moves through the ceramic. If you already own an RO system, this filter can usually be added to it rather than replacing the setup you have.
